—A note from Debbie’s Coach, Ben:
Debbie has been amazing to work with. She’s kind, she works hard, she’s welcoming to all our members, and she’s a pleasure to have in the studio.
Her progress and story speak for itself, but to me, the biggest change is her change in outlook when it comes to fitness.
When we met she told me I’m not a gym person”, but now she’s surprised herself with her abilities and has adopted an “I can do it” attitude.
This applies to managing her stress, managing her fibromyalgia, improving her nutrition and getting her workouts in with a coach and on her own.
On the path to long term success, the key is to not stop, and every week Debbie shows up, adjusts for how she feels (for anyone know has or knows someone with fibro, you know this is a massive task) and puts in the work.
Fat loss, abilities in the gym, strength, energy, less pain… she’s getting amazing results and is a great example of being able to fit fitness into her busy life!
What made you decide you wanted/needed to start a program?
Probably the same thing as everyone else, I was feeling run down, out of shape, had a lack of energy and confidence and frustrated with myself and my lack of commitment to living a better life.
It was time for a change and a friend recommended I speak with Ben.
What was your life like prior to starting at Lean Strong Fitness?
I am a very busy person and always on the go.
I love challenges and new goals but I have never been a physically active person as I am not the most coordinated person so my activity was about walking and gardening, not exactly weight training activities!
What were your most important goals when you started? Why were these important to you?
My most important goals were to feel better, have more energy and like what I saw when I looked in the mirror.
The ‘over 50’ thing was getting old and I wanted to feel stronger. I also have fibromyalgia and I know and understand that the best way to deal with that condition is to keep on moving and I felt I needed help with that goal as I aged.
Describe any reservations that you had before we started working together? Why did you have these reservations?
The cost was a reservation for me as it was a big commitment financially but it was also about the time – I had joined gyms before and wasted lots of money on them or on equipment that I used for awhile and then everything got put to the side and excuses became more important than the activity.
I was nervous that I did not have the commitment to stay with it…but guess what I do and I enjoy it! Surprised me!
Explain how we were able to help you with your reservations. What were some specifics we were able to help you with?
Encouragement is a big thing for me. I think one of the biggest things that has kept me on track and that I attribute to all the staff at Lean Strong Fitness is the constant encouragement that is given.
I don’t want to let anyone down including myself so I work hard to make sure the staff knows how much I appreciate the time and effort they put into me.
What results have you achieved since starting your program? What are your proudest accomplishments so far?
I am consistent, I have visible muscle (I am told!), I feel good, and I have more energy and less pain!
I lifted 110lbs on June 19, 2017, which was a new goal but what is most impressive to me is how my family comments on my health, fitness level, and confidence level.
Doing more does equal feeling more (all positive) and even on days when I am dragging myself to the gym, I leave feeling accomplished and starting my day off on a positive note.
How is your life better now that you have achieved these results? Is there anything you can do now that you didn’t do or were hesitant to do before?
I believe my life is better now because I believe in myself more and on a different level.
I believe I can achieve even when I don’t fully grasp the process. In blind faith, knowing nothing about weight training, I listened to Ben, I took advice, I heard what Pam, Andrew, and Austin told me and incorporated all of their advice and knowledge shared with me into my fitness training…
…and it worked!
Each one of the staff have nuggets of information to share with me that helps me achieve the exercise better and makes me a better person, helping me understand my body in a new way. I love that!
What do you want to accomplish next?
With the encouragement, I have gotten from my family at home and my Lean Strong Family I have been able to maintain a loss of 14 lbs from my highest weight… I have been encouraged to stay with a Ketogenic diet which I started in February (note from Ben – this is a better fit for Debbie to manage Fibromyalgia) and my next goal is to lose and keep off another 10lbs.
53 years old is going to be the next 43!
Age is just a number and not important but it is how I feel that makes it amazing and I am very grateful to be on this journey to better health.
What do you like best about our program and how would you tell your friends about us and what we do?
I really like the personal understanding that is shown to each member. You can tell when everyone walks into the gym that there is a connection and an understanding for what each person is going through, which their training and even personally.
Ben and the staff take an active interest in the clients, in fact, we aren’t just clients, we are a family of sorts with common goals and encouragement for each other.
I did not know it could ever be like this… it has been the most positive workout experience of my life!
