— A note from Chuck’s coach, Austin:
It has been awesome as a coach to watch Chuck return to a previous version of himself, one that is stronger, leaner, and healthier overall.
When Chuck first came to us, he had a number of recent back and shoulder injuries that were affecting his everyday life. He was determined to overcome these injuries, regain his strength, and get back to being in best shape of his life. This included getting off his blood pressure medication, which he’d been on for 20+ years.
Our approach required patience on Chuck’s part and for him to swallow the ego a little bit (which he did – High five!) as we took a step back from lifting heavy weights initially to rehabilitate his injuries and improve mobility. Once Chuck began to improve, we re-introduced deadlifts, squats and bench press into his routine and he’s worked diligently ever since to increase his strength in each movement.
Perhaps his biggest accomplishment in my books is that he is no longer taking the blood pressure medication he was told he’d have to take for the rest of his life.
As we enter a new year, I couldn’t be prouder of all Chuck’s accomplished. Time moves forward, but Chuck continues to reverse the physical clock, achieving things he was doing back in his high school and university days.
Here’s his story in his words 🙂
What made you decide you wanted/needed to start a program?
About 5 years ago I injured my back. No matter what I tried I could not get past it, I would repeatedly re-injure myself in the gym.
I also had surgery on my shoulder due to a training injury, which took me a year to recover from. These injuries combined with sitting at a desk all day resulted in me putting on fat, losing my strength and mobility. I knew it was time to try something different.
What were your 1-2 most important goals when you started?
– reclaim my strength
– reduce body fat and add muscle
In one to three sentences, can you describe any reservations that you had before we started working together?
I have many years experience with weight training and it was hard to put my training in someone else’s hands and fully trust them.
I was set in my ways so had to swallow my pride somewhat to ask for help.
In one to three sentences, can you explain how I was able to help you with your reservations?
Austin quickly earned my trust.
He put together excellent routines specifically designed to meet my needs and it was very obvious that he knows his stuff.
Austin quickly understood my strengths and weaknesses and organized my workouts to best address them.
He is a good motivator, and he taught me to train with a more disciplined and organized approach. He always keeps things positive.
What results have you achieved since starting your program? How do those results make you feel?
I lost 25 pounds followed by putting on considerable muscle. I also lost 4 inches off my waist.
My strength has returned, I am performing heavy Deadlifts, Squats, Bench Presses, weighted Chins. My flexibility has never been better. (note from Austin – he can bench over 300lbs now, even after a shoulder surgery – this is amazing!)
I feel great and have a more positive outlook. I am proud to be setting a good example for my children. Only downside was having to replace all my clothes!
What do you like best about our program?
I am never bored with the program – Austin is constantly mixing things up to make it challenging. He really cares about you and getting the results you desire.
The nutrition counselling is also very well organized and managed, with constant feedback and modifications as required.
Is there anything you want to add about our program that you’d want someone else to know?
The Lean Strong Fitness team have a terrific program that works. They truly care about their clients and know how to get results, all while having a great time.
I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone looking to improve their physical well-being.
